News and Announcements

The Gazelles Track Club concluded a highly successful 2023 season at the TAAF State Games of Texas. We look forward to seeing everyone again next May 13th at 7:00 pm at the Heritage Middle School track in Colleyville when the youth track season begins again. We hope each of you has a safe and productive school year.

The Gazelles Track Club 2023 season is underway! The Grapevine practices began Monday, May 15th at 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at the Heritage Middle School track, located at 5300 Heritage Avenue in Colleyville, behind the high school off Highway 121 between Hall-Johnson Road and Glade Road. Practices are twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM until July 17th. The Justin practices began on May 16th at Northwest ISD’s Pike Middle School track. The Justin practices are being held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. All workouts are optional, so you do not need to bring your child to every practice unless they need or want the extra training.

Interested participants may register by completing the attached QR code registration form before June 14th, and the athlete may participate that same day. Uniforms and parent / athlete t-shirts are ordered online separately before 11:59 pm on June 5th by visiting:

www.agreatideaonline.com/gazelles

The deadline for ordering uniforms was Monday May 22nd at 11:59 pm. Once you have registered, please type remind.com/join/gazellestr into your browser and follow the simple instructions to sign up for the Remind group text app to enable us to communicate with you more effectively.

A parent meeting was held on Monday, May 15th at 7:00 PM at the Heritage Middle School track during the introductory practice. During the meeting, we presented information about the Gazelles, schedules, coaching and training philosophies, registration fees and ordering team uniforms. The first practice session was held during this meeting and covered the warmup and stretching routine used throughout the season, as well as an introduction to proper running form and technique.

The summer track meet schedule has been set by the region and is listed below. All the regular circuit track meets before Regionals and State will follow the same schedule, where both running and field events begin at 8:00 AM on a rolling schedule. The link to the TAAF Region 4 website is https://www.taafregion4.org/region-4-track . and the circuit track meet schedules are on that website.

June 3, 2023 – Lake Dallas High School – 3016 Parkridge Drive, Corinth, TX 76210

June 17, 2023 – Denton High School – 3001 Bronco Way, Denton, TX 76207

June 24, 2023 – Little Elm Athletic Complex – 1151 East Eldorado Parkway, Little Elm, TX 75068

July 1, 2023 – Central Junior High School – 3191 West Pipeline Road, Euless, TX 76040

July 13 – 14, 2023 – Regional Meet – Kangaroo Stadium – 250 Eureka Street, Weatherford, TX 76086

July 27 – 30, 2023 – TAAF State Games of Texas – Veterans Memorial Early College High School – 4550 U.S. 281, Brownsville, TX 78520

Athletes should plan to arrive at the meet approximately 45 minutes prior to the first event they wish to participate in. If you and your child do not know what events they would like to participate in, just come at 8:00 AM and we will send them into running events as they are announced. Your child needs to be registered with TAAF prior to participating in the circuit meets, but not pre-registered for any events at the meet. Pre-registration is only required for the Regional meet.

Since there is no way to determine exactly when an event will begin, it is best to arrive at the beginning of the day by 8:00 AM. Simply purchase a plastic wristband for $5 at the front gate for your child to participate and then find other Gazelles families to set up camp with. Coaches will be helping athletes on the track, and it is very important for parents to listen to the announcements about upcoming events, and encourage the Gazelles athletes who are interested in each event to begin warming up and reporting to the check-in area near the starting line. We want to encourage the young athletes to try different events in these practice meets, as there are no ‘wrong’ choices on events. Simply choose an event and do it to the best of your ability. Most meets limit the kids to 3 or 4 events per day.

Each meet has running and field events beginning at 8:00 AM. The running events follow a ‘rolling schedule’, with each event beginning immediately following the conclusion of the prior event. The typical order for running events is as follows:

(Girls, then Boys, Youngest to Oldest Age Divisions)

The 3,200 Meter Run for ages 14 and up is run at 8:00 AM.

80 / 100 / 110 Meter Hurdles

The GCISD has approved the Gazelles Track Club to utilize the Heritage Middle School track. We will need parent volunteers to help the coaches keep the younger kids at an appropriate social distance from each other.

We will begin practices on Monday evening, June 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Heritage Middle School track. We would have the first workout, along with the parent meeting. The Northwest location at the Northwest High School track has not been opened yet, so we will plan on having workouts only at the Heritage Middle School in Colleyville.

All track meets for this summer have been cancelled, so we will have workouts only. We have scheduled two small, informal “dual” meets with another club. These will occur on Friday evening, June 26th and Friday evening, July 10th from 6:00 to 9:30 pm.

The Colleyville location will have three practices each per week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm, and participants can go to as many as all 3 or as few as they wish. The cost of the program will be reduced to reflect the shorter training time, as we will finish on Wednesday, July 29th.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Blessings,

Greg Scoggins
Founder and Head Coach
Gazelles Track Club

We’re still waiting on the GCISD and NWISD school boards to officially open their campuses back up for our workouts. If opened, we will likely begin practices on Monday evening, June 8th at 7:00 pm at the Heritage Middle School track. We will have the first workout, along with the parent meeting. The Northwest location would likely begin the next night, on Tuesday, June 9th at 7:00 pm at the Northwest High School track. All track meets for this summer have been cancelled, so we will have workouts only. Both the Colleyville and Northwest locations would have two practices each per week, and participants can go to as many or as few as they wish at either location.

We hope to see you soon.
